Global carbon emissions fall sharply by 1.5 billion tonnes
- World War II did not see such a decline
Scientists report on the first six months of the year 2020
The first six months of 2030 saw a sharp decline in carbon emissions of 4.5 per cent due to the corona. That is 1.3 billion tonnes less carbon dioxide was released into the air in the first six months of 2020 compared to 2012. Researchers say that this did not happen during World War II, during the Petroleum Crisis of the 19th century, or during the 2008 recession.
During the Corona, there were 2.5 billion people living in the world. Carbon-producing activities, including industrial, were shut down. As a result, it was natural for carbon emissions to decline. Researchers have also warned that the decline is temporary. As the economies of many countries revolve, production will soon begin to grow. At the time of the lockdown, the peaks of the Himalayas were visible in India from a distance of 200 km. The atmosphere was much clearer and the purity of the air increased.
